Breakups are hard. There’s no getting around it.

The process of losing your significant other takes time to move through. You need to understand feelings, adjust to a new lifestyle, and come to terms that the relationship wasn’t meant to be.

And it’s a lot easier said than done.

I was a serial monogamist, and with that came far too many breakups. I tried all the methods you could possibly think a young 20-something would do to get over a breakup. I tried texting my ex obsessively, sleeping with someone mere days after, and crying myself to sleep, thinking how I fucked up so bad.

While I thought that was how all breakups go, I finally realized they suck, but they don’t have to suck that bad.

There are a few ways to care for yourself that may not make the pain go away, but make the breakup process easier.

And unless you’re a masochist, I assume you want your breakup to be a little less painful.
