I’m 26 and the thought of using captions has never occurred to me.

On the other hand, I nannied for a 9-year-old boy who always watched with closed captioning. I always wondered why he did that. He doesn’t have ADHD — he was tested for it — and the volume was always up loud enough.

If the reason for this behavior is simply to help him focus better, I worry about the attention span of Gen Z. Using CC as aid is great, but it’s worrisome that it’s needed in the first place.

I’m young but I constantly find myself longing for the simpler days when cell phones and laptops weren’t readily available. It’s hard to get someone’s attention nowadays; the same goes for TV apparently.
